COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets President Mike Priest announced August 26 that the hockey club will pay season-long tribute to its late founder and majority owner, John H. McConnell, by integrating a logo bearing his initials "JHM" that will be worn by team players and used in a variety of in-arena elements throughout the 2008-09 National Hockey League season.
The logo utilizes the team's three primary colors: Union Blue, Goal Red and Capital Silver. The logo features Mr. McConnell's initials "JHM" in blue, above the Blue Jackets' silver star and three red stripes, contained in a blue oval with silver trim.
Blue Jackets players will wear a patch bearing the "JHM" logo on the front right shoulder of both the home blue and road white jerseys throughout the 2008-09 season. In addition, the "JHM" logo will appear in-ice at Nationwide Arena behind each goal net.
"Mr. Mac's commitment to the Blue Jackets, our fans and this community was deep-rooted and it will be a privilege for all of us to honor him this season and beyond," said Priest. "This mark will serve as a reminder to all of us to continue to work every day towards accomplishing the goals he set for this organization both on and off the ice."
The team has planned a number of elements to pay tribute to Mr. McConnell during the regular season home-opener against the Nashville Predators on Friday, October 17. All fans in attendance that night will receive a commemorative cap adorned with the "JHM" logo, which will also appear on all four corner dasherboards around the rink. Additional elements planned for opening night, as well as long-term plans to honor Mr. McConnell will be announced at a future date.
