Columbus Blue Jackets Hold Eight Picks in 2007 NHL Entry Draft

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets hold the rights to eight draft picks, with a conditional seventh round pick from Anaheim, in this Friday's National Hockey League Entry Draft to be held at Nationwide Arena. The first round will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night with rounds 2-7 beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Columbus will select once in the first round (seventh overall), twice in the second (37th and 53rd), once in the third (68th), three times in the fifth (128th, 129th and 149th), once in the sixth (158th) and have a conditional pick in the seventh round from Anaheim (211th).

The club acquired the 53rd overall pick in this year's draft along with third (Tommy Sestito) and fourth (Ben Wright) round picks in the 2006 Entry Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for last year's second round pick (Jamie McGinn). Columbus acquired the 129th overall selection from the Boston Bruins in exchange for the rights to defenseman Adam McQuaid and acquired the 149th overall pick from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goaltender Ty Conklin.

Columbus acquired a conditional seventh round pick in either the 2007 or 2008 NHL Entry Draft along with center Zenon Konopka and left wing Curtis Glencross from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for right wing Joe Motzko, center Mark Hartigan and a fourth round pick, 98th overall, in this year’s draft.

The 2007 NHL Entry Draft will be held at Nationwide Arena on Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23. The first round will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night with rounds 2-7 beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Tickets for the Draft are free and available at the Nationwide Arena Box Office or any of The Blueline locations at the Chillers or The Mall at Tuttle Crossing.
