Sergei Bobrovsky named NHL's Second Star of the Week

Bobrovsky went 2-0-1 with a 0.33 GAA and .989 save percentage last week

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been named the National Hockey League's Second Star of the Week for the period ending March 5, the League and club announced today. Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov was named First Star and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price was the Third Star selection. Bobrovsky is the second Blue Jacket to earn NHL Star of the Week accolades this season as Sam Gagner earned Third Star honors for the week ending December 11.

Bobrovsky, 28, started in three of the Blue Jackets' four games last week, going 2-0-1 with a 0.33 goals-against average, .989 save percentage (87-of-88) and two shutouts. He stopped 29-of-30 shots in a 1-0 overtime loss at Montreal on February 28 before posting back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his NHL career. He earned a 38-save shutout in a 1-0 win vs. Minnesota on March 2 and had 20 saves in a 3-0 win at New Jersey on March 5. He set the franchise record for most wins in a single season with his career-high 34th victory on Sunday, surpassing Steve Mason's 33 victories during the 2008-09 campaign.

The Novokuznetsk, Russia native is 34-13-4 with a 2.09 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and five shutouts in 51 games this season. He ranks second-T in the NHL in wins, third in goals-against average and save percentage among goalies that have played in 30 or more games and is fourth-T in shutouts. The accolade is the second for Bobrovsky this season after the netminder was named the NHL's First Star of the Month of December after going 12-0-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average and .939 save percentage.

Bobrovsky is 174-103-29 with a 2.47 goals-against average and .919 save percentage and 17 shutouts in 318 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. Acquired from the Flyers in a trade on June 22, 2012, he is Columbus' all-time leader in wins with a 132-80-19 record, 2.38 goals-against average, .922 save percentage and 17 shutouts in 235 games.
