Columbus Blue Jackets Goaltender Mathieu Garon Named NHL's Third Star for the Week of January 4-10

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Mathieu Garon was named the National Hockey League's Third Star for the week of January 4-10, the League and club announced January 11. Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows was named First Star, while Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller was the Second Star.

Garon posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.46 goals-against average, .940 save percentage and one shutout in four games last week, including a 3-0-0 mark with a 1.33 GAA, .947 SV% and one shutout in three starts over a four day period at the end of the week. Burrows tallied 6-1-7, including two hat tricks, in three games for Vancouver, while Hiller was 4-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .954 SV% in four games for Anaheim.

After stopping six-of-seven shots in relief of Steve Mason in a 7-3 loss at Vancouver on Jan. 5, Garon made 24 saves in a 4-2 win at Edmonton on Jan. 7, earned the 100th win of his NHL career with 22 saves in a 3-2 win at Calgary on Jan. 8 and registered his second shutout of the season with 26 saves in a 2-0 win vs. Dallas on Jan. 10.

The 32-year-old native of Chandler, Quebec is 7-5-3 with a 2.55 GAA, .909 SV% and two shutouts in 21 games this season, which is his first as a Blue Jacket. Garon has compiled a 101-88-16 record with a 2.82 GAA, .905 SV% and 16 shutouts in 225 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings and Montreal Canadiens.
