COLUMBUS, OHIO –Columbus Blue Jackets left wing Rick Nash has been named the National Hockey League's Third Star for the month of March, the club and League announced April 1. Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward (10-1-2, 1.98 goals-against average, .938 save percentage in 13 games) was named First Star, while Vancouver Canucks forward Henrik Sedin (7-12-19, +9 in 15 games) was named Second Star.
Nash, 24, led Columbus in scoring with 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points with 52 shots on goal and a +7 plus/minus rating in 15 games as the Jackets went 9-4-2 in March. He picked up points in 10-of-15 games, including his fourth career hat trick at Detroit on March 7. In that game, he became the first player since Montreal's Maurice Richard in 1948 to score three unassisted goals in a game. He also collected a career-high four assists in a 5-0 win over Calgary on March 26.
Nash has tallied 36-38-74 in 73 games this season, leading the club in goals, assists and points and setting career highs in assists and points. The Blue Jackets captain is currently tied for seventh in the NHL in goals, while ranking 19th in points and tied for second with five shorthanded goals.
The Blue Jackets return to action Saturday when they visit the Nashville Predators. Game time from Sommet Center is set for 8 p.m. ET.
