COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Milan Jurcina has been named to the Slovakian Olympic hockey team that will compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, the team announced December 29. Jurcina was acquired by the Blue Jackets yesterday with right wing Chris Clark from the Washington Capitals in exchange for left wing Jason Chimera.
Jurcina, 26, is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound native of Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. He will be making his second Olympic appearance as he registered one assist and eight penalty minutes in six games at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. He has also represented Slovakia in the 2006 and 2007 World Championships and the 2002 and 2003 World Junior Championships. He has tallied 14-36-50 and 210 penalty minutes in 302 career NHL games with the Capitals and Boston Bruins, including 0-4-4 and 14 penalty minutes in 27 games this season.
