COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned right wing Mike Blunden to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, club Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced November 23.
Blunden, 23, has made one appearance with the Blue Jackets this season and had two shots and six hits in 10:31 of ice time against Colorado on November 12. He did not play during his recall after being added to the roster on November 20. He has collected two goals and two assists for four points and has 69 penalty minutes in 51 career NHL games. In 17 games with the Falcons this season, he has tallied 8-5-13, 29 penalty minutes and is +4. He is tied for the team lead in goals and power play goals, while ranking second in plus/minus rating.
Chicago's second pick, 43rd overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Blunden was acquired by the Blue Jackets from Chicago in exchange for Adam Pineault on Jan. 10, 2009. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Blunden has tallied 48-64-112, 282 penalty minutes and a +10 cumulative plus/minus rating in 220 career AHL games. Prior to his professional career, he notched 100-81-181 and 246 penalty minutes in 236 games with Erie of the Ontario Hockey League from 2002-2006.
