COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Alexandre Picard to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, and activated left wing Fredrik Modin off Injured Reserve, General Manager Scott Howson announced January 19. Modin, 35, has missed the past six games after being injured at Edmonton on January 7. He has tallied one goal and one assist for two points and 12 penalty minutes in 14 games this season. The Sundsvall, Sweden native has registered 221-222-443 and 425 penalty minutes in 828 career NHL games.
Picard, 24, has registered nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points and 72 penalty minutes in 27 games with Syracuse this season. He has notched 64-66-130 and 420 penalty minutes in 219 career AHL games with the Crunch. Columbus' first pick, eighth overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, he was scoreless with 10 penalty minutes in nine games with the Blue Jackets this season. In 67 career games with the Blue Jackets, he has 0-2-2 and 58 penalty minutes.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers. Game time from Wachovia Center is 7 p.m. ET.
