COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets reduced their active training camp roster to 33 players as goaltender Tomas Popperle was assigned to the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch, General Manager Scott Howson announced September 28.
Popperle, Columbus' fifth pick, 131st overall in the 2005 Entry Draft, appeared in two games with the Blue Jackets last season, sporting a 1.35 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in two relief appearances. He went 25-19-4 with a 2.86 GAA and .905 SV% in 49 games with the Crunch in 2006-07.
The Blue Jackets return to preseason action tonight when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes at HSBC Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The club closes its preseason schedule on Saturday at Nashville. Game time between the Jackets and Predators is 8 p.m. (ET).
The Blue Jackets open the 2007-08 season at Nationwide Arena on Friday, October 5 against the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. Game time is 7 p.m. with all fans in attendance receiving a Nationwide Night Rally Flag. A special pre-game show featuring former U.S. Olympic figure skater Todd Eldredge will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m.
