COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned goaltender Fredrik Norrena to the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced December 16.
Norrena, 35, has appeared in eight games with the Blue Jackets this season, compiling a 1-3-2 record with a 3.16 goals-against average and .872 save percentage. He made 25 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss at the New York Islanders in his last outing on November 3.
The Pietarsaari, Finland native was acquired by the Blue Jackets with forward Fredrik Modin from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for goaltender Marc Denis on June 30, 2006. He has posted a 35-45-11 record with a 2.79 goals-against average, .899 save percentage and five shutouts in 100 career NHL games with Columbus.
In 2006-07, Norrena became the first goaltender in franchise history to post a winning record when he went 24-23-3 with a 2.78 goals-against average, .904 save percentage and three shutouts in 55 games. Prior to joining the club, he spent over a decade playing in Finland and Sweden. He was a member of Finland’s silver medal-winning team at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Italy.
The Blue Jackets return home to Nationwide Arena on Wednesday to take on the San Jose Sharks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD will begin with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game also will be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship station WWCD-FM, CD101 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
