COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the launch of the club's Learn to Play program, which will provide first-time hockey participants, between 4-8 years of age, free head-to-toe equipment, age-appropriate instruction and certified coaching led by former Blue Jacket Andrew Cassels.

The local program, conducted in partnership with the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players' Association, will consist of six on-ice sessions over the course of six consecutive weeks. Registration for spring sessions opens Monday, February 27.

Learn to Play is open to boys and girls who possess the ability to skate but have not yet participated in any introductory or organized hockey programs. In an effort to reduce cost barriers associated with taking up the sport, each participant will be given to keep a complete set of Blue Jackets-branded equipment valued at approximately $400.

Blue Jackets Learn to Play kicks off with three spring sessions. The six-week program costs $100. Registration information, including eligibility requirements, may be found at  Summer sessions will be announced at a later date.
