COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Matt Calvert off Injured Reserve, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Calvert, who has missed the past 19 games due to an abdominal injury, is eligible to return to the lineup on Friday when Columbus visits the Vancouver Canucks.
Calvert, 23, has recorded seven hits, two takeaways and four shots on goal in three games this season. The club’s fifth round pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft has tallied 20-19-39 in 100 career NHL games. The 5-11, 187-pounder collected 9-7-16 and 32 penalty minutes in 42 games with the Blue Jackets in 2012-13 and added 10-11-21 and 39 penalty minutes in 34 games with the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons.
A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Calvert spent three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings prior to turning pro, amassing 99-131-230 in 198 games from 2007-10. He has also appeared in 128 career AHL games, registering 40-42-82 and a +6 plus/minus rating with Springfield.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when they visit the Canucks at Rogers Arena. Game time is set for 10 p.m. ET.
