by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired defensemen Aaron Rome and Clay Wilson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for center Geoff Platt, Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced November 15. Both Rome and Wilson were then assigned to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus's American Hockey League affiliate.

Rome, 24, is playing in his fourth professional season and has tallied two goals and three assists for five points with 31 penalty minutes in 14 games with the AHL's Portland Pirates this season. He has registered 17-53-70 and 387 penalty minutes in 229 career AHL games with Cincinnati and Portland, including a career-high 8-17-25 and 139 penalty minutes in 76 games with the Pirates in 2006-07. He also made his NHL debut with the Ducks last season, logging 14:31 of ice time against Detroit on Jan. 2, 2007 and appeared in one Stanley Cup Playoffs game in Game Four of the Western Conference Quarterfinals vs. Minnesota.

The Nesbitt, Manitoba native was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round, 104th overall, of the 2002 Entry Draft. He played junior hockey for Saskatoon, Kootenay, Swift Current and Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League and collected 31-124-155 and 646 penalty minutes in 304 games from 1999-04. He earned WHL East Second All-Star Team honors in 2003-04 after notching 10-42-52, 210 penalty minutes and a +36 plus/minus rating in 69 games with Swift Current and Moose Jaw.

Wilson, 24, has tallied 3-5-8 and six penalty minutes in 14 games with Portland this season, which is the third of his professional career. He has notched 22-66-88 and 98 penalty minutes in 153 career AHL games with Portland and Grand Rapids. Last year, he led all Portland defensemen in goals, assists and points with 9-34-43 and 52 penalty minutes in 79 games. His point totals ranked seventh among AHL blueliners.

Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 11, 2006, Wilson played four seasons at Michigan Tech University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association from 2001-05. The Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota native recorded 17-40-57 and 119 penalty minutes in 148 games during his college career.
