A look at the past week on the farm for the Cleveland Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets

Feb. 2: 6-3 loss at Syracuse:Things started better for the Monsters this time around as goals by Miles Koules and Vitaly Abramov gave Cleveland a 2-0 lead 15:50 into the game. But the Crunch scored less than a minute later, igniting a streak of five straight goals by Syracuse. Koules' second of the night got one back in the third before the Crunch scored an empty-netter. In net, Jean-Francois Berube made 24 saves.

Notes

Forward Nathan Gerbe took part in the AHL's All-Star festivities Jan. 27-28 in Springfield, Mass. Gerbe, the team's captain, had two goals during the All-Star Game tournament and helped the North Division to the title.
Forward Mark Letestu, who is second on the team in goals, was recalled to Columbus on Tuesday and played in two games for the Blue Jackets during the week.
Forward Kevin Stenlund, who left the team's game Jan. 24 with an injury, did not play in either game on the weekend. The Monsters also were without Sonny Milano and second-leading scorer Zac Dalpe.
Simpson's tally vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was his first of the year in 43 games for Cleveland.
The multi-goal game by Koules gave the 24-year-old his first two goals of the year with Cleveland after a 13-14-27 line a season ago with the Monsters. He recently returned from a stint in Finland.

At 21-19-4-1, Cleveland sits in fifth place in the eight-team North Division, tied with Binghamton with 45 points. The Monsters are 13 points behind division-leading Rochester and six behind fourth-place Utica with three games in hand on the Comets.
