WEEK IN REVIEW: Dec. 13 – Philadelphia 3, at Blue Jackets 1: Philadelphia used goals by Peter Forsberg, Jeff Carter and an empty net tally by Sami Kapanen to hold off the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. The Jackets took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a power play goal by Jan Hrdina at the 5:42 mark before Forsberg tied the game just 1:12 later. Carter's goal at 2:00 of the second was the game-winner. Robert Esche made 23 saves to earn the win in net, while Marc Denis stopped 28-of-30 shots for Columbusâ€¦ Dec. 15 – at Carolina 2, Blue Jackets 1: Rod Brind'Amour scored goals at 6:33 and 9:24 of the second period and Martin Gerber made 25 saves to lead Southeast Division-leading Carolina to the win at home. Mike Rupp scored his first goal as a Blue Jacket at 1:20 of the third for Columbus, who also got 30 saves from Pascal Leclaire. Carolina was 1-of-7 on the power play, while the Jackets were 0-of-4â€¦ Dec. 17 – at Nashville 7, Blue Jackets 3: Nashville scored a franchise-record six goals in the second period to break open a close game and win their league-leading 15th home game. Rick Nash scored his first goal of the season to give Columbus a 1-0 lead after one period and Jan Hrdina's shorthanded goal at 6:03 of the third gave the club a 2-1 lead. Kris Beech tied the game at 2-2 just :27 later and the Predators scored the game's next five goals before David Vyborny scored the fourth penalty shot goal of his career at 14:50 of the third. Tomas Vokoun made 23 saves for Nashville, while Marc Denis (19 saves-25 shots) and Pascal Leclaire (6 saves-7 shots) shared the goaltending duties for Columbus
NASH RETURNS TO LINEUP, SCORES FIRST GOAL: LW Rick Nash returned to the lineup on Dec. 17 at Nashville after missing 17 games with a knee sprain. He scored a power play goal and logged 14:37 of ice time in his first game since suffering the injury at Calgary on Nov. 3. Nash, who also missed 11 of the club's first 12 games, led the NHL in goals with 41-16-57 in 80 games and made his All-Star Game debut in 2003-04.
VYBORNY REMAINS PERFECT ON THE PENALTY SHOT: RW David Vyborny scored his fourth career penalty shot goal at Nashville on Dec. 17, marking his second against the Predators and goalie Tomas Vokoun. Vyborny is a perfect 4-for-4 in penalty shots during his career. His other three are: Feb. 2, 2004 at Phoenix (Brian Boucher), Mar. 19, 2001 vs. Nashville (Vokoun) and Oct. 15 at Chicago (Robbie Tallas). Vyborny is also 1-for-2 in shootout opportunities this season, converting the winning score Dec. 8 against the NY Islanders (Rick DiPietro).
