CBJ Sweep Alberta

by Bill Davidge / Columbus Blue Jackets

January 9

The last two games on the road have allowed the CBJ the opportunity to enjoy winning. Wins over Edmonton and Calgary on back-to-back nights have rekindled a little fire in the boys. Stingy defense and solid goaltending were the ingredients that blended for the desired result.

Garon who turned 32 years of age today chalked up his 99th and 100th wins of his career. The "win and your in" philosophy for the goaltenders has now taken a turn for Garon. He remained steady and came up with timely saves. The defensive corps received a boost with Mike Commodore jumping back into the lineup after a five-game hiatus. During the Calgary game he played 20+ minutes, had four hits and three blocked shots. It is the hope of all he can get back to 100% health and be a force on the back end.

Some other milestones were attained during the trip. Sammy Pahlsson played in his 600th career game and assisted on his 100th career goal. Raffi Torres played in his 400th game; and the MVP of the trip Antoine Vermette scored his 100th career goal.

The line of Torres-Vermette-Voracek was very impressive with their speed, grit and ability to make quick transition to both ends of the ice. The CBJ look like they have lost Freddie Modin. He limped his way into the Saddledome yesterday with a lower body injury and in talking with him this morning, tests are forthcoming.

Kristian Huselius got his offense back rolling with a three-game multi-point streak. R.J. Umberger continues to be rock solid with his infectious hard nosed hockey. Rick Nash is now in the midst of being an assist addict, but goals are limited. Nash has gone eight games without a tally.

Sunday will be an exciting tilt with the Stars. Look for the nuisances Steve Ott and James Neal to provide some color to their lineup.

Stay tuned!!
