The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Marcus Bjork (pronounced bih-YOHRK) to a one-year entry level contract, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Bjork, 24, has spent the past four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League where he registered 17 goals and 47 assists for 64 points with 98 penalty minutes in 204 career games with Brynas IF, Malmo Redhawks and Orebro HK. He also added 1-3-4 and 29 penalty minutes in 13 career games in the SHL Playoffs during that span.
The 6-3, 203-pound native of Umea, Sweden made his SHL debut in 2018-19 and combined for 5-8-13 and 12 penalty minutes in 52 contests with Orebro HK and Malmo. He split the 2019-20 campaign between Malmo and Brynas and notched a career-high 6-14-20 and 40 penalty minutes in 49 games, including 2-6-8 and 10 penalty minutes in 13 outings with Brynas. He went on to spend the past two seasons with Brynas, including this past season in which he collected 3-12-15 and 26 penalty minutes in 52 games.
Prior to joining the SHL, he was named the HockeyAllsvenskan Defenseman of the Year in 2017-18 after leading all defensemen in the second-highest league in the Swedish hockey system in goals and points with 13-21-34 and 22 penalty minutes in 52 games with IK Oskarshamn. In 2016-17, he appeared in eight games with the United States Hockey League's Omaha Lancers, tallying 1-2-3 and six penalty minutes, before finishing the season in Sweden.
