TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The Columbus Blue Jackets prospects closed out the 2008 Traverse City Tournament with a 6-5 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Lightning prospects on Wednesday.
Columbus, who finished the tournament with a 2-2-0 record, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period of play behind a pair of goals from forward Devin DiDiomete and one from Blair Yaworski. Tampa Bay cut the lead to two on a pair of occasions in the second period, but the Blue Jackets answered both times with goals from Brandon Mashinter and Erik Felde.
The Lightning took over in the third, scoring three goals in the span of 9:47 – including two power play goals – to tie the game at 5-5 and send it to overtime. The Blue Jackets wasted no time in the extra frame to claim the victory. Ryan Garlock scored 0:51 into overtime to notch the game-winner, with assists coming from Matt Calvert and Brent Regner.
