EDITOR'S NOTE: You've arrived at the CBJ Power Rankings, our weekly breakdown of the top-five players, statistics, trends and many other Blue Jackets-related categories. If you're looking for the traditional power rankings, you've come to the wrong place. We'll go in-depth and outside the box, and hopefully give you something to think about.
For this week's rankings, we're talking 5-on-5 hockey. Even strength, one of the true indicators of how good a team is and how consistently good it can be. Advanced metrics have augmented and enhanced the way we look at 5-on-5 hockey in terms of puck possession and shot differentials (Corsi and Fenwick), but in this week's rankings, we're going to keep it fairly simple. Which teams in the Eastern Conference have the best 5-on-5 goals for/against ratio? Let's get right to it.
5-ON-5 F/A: 1.33
CURRENTLY: T-1ST, ATLANTIC DIV.
The Boston Bruins are one of the best 5-on-5 teams in the National Hockey League, and much of that success can be credited to their structure and depth. Head coach Claude Julien's team plays within its system with impressive precision and commitment, and the Bruins are able to sustain their defensively-sound game by rolling four balanced lines that each bring a key element to the table.
