The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Gabriel Carlsson from the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Carlsson, 22, suited up in the Blue Jackets' 2018-19 season opener at Detroit on October 4, recording one shot and two penalty minutes in 9:21 of ice time. He has registered three assists and six penalty minutes in 17 career games with the Jackets since making his NHL debut at the end of the 2016-17 campaign. In 2017-18, the 6-5, 192-pound defenseman collected 0-2-2, four penalty minutes and an "even" plus/minus rating in 14 outings with the team.
Columbus' second first round selection, 29th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft, the Orebro, Sweden native has also tallied 3-12-15 and 22 penalty minutes in 68 career AHL contests with the Monsters. He has notched 1-8-9 and six penalty minutes in 32 games with the team this season.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they visit the Washington Capitals. Game time from Capital One Arena is 7 p.m. ET.
