Cannonfest is back for a seventh year!

by Alison Lukan / Columbus Blue Jackets

Back in 2010, a group of folks who followed the Blue Jackets decided to get together in the off season to talk all things Union Blue. Since then, what started as an idea for a cookout in Matt’s back yard has morphed into an event that draws fans by the hundreds every Summer and spurs a question….

“When is Cannonfest?”

It’s a question Greg, Matt and I hear every year. And every year we try to put together an event that is for fans and delivered by fans. It’s a space and time to share what you love about the CBJ and see how others share their passion for the team.

And so, with that in mind, this year we’re excited to announce the details for the seventh annual Cannonfest:

Cannonfest 2016

Dick’s Last Resort – 343 N. Front Street

Sunday, August 21, 1-4 p.m.

Yep! We’re returning to last year’s location, just “Jody Shelley number” of steps from Nationwide Arena.

We’re excited to announce that once again, the incomparable Dave Maetzold and Mike Todd will be emcee’ing the afternoon.

There will be tons to see and do including the annual silent auction and raffle put on by the Jacket Backers benefiting the Blue Jackets Foundation. You can also make a difference for local pets by supporting the Sedona Grace Foundation who returns to the ‘Fest this year.

We’ll have ways you can support Blue Jackets’ players’ charities including Cam Atkinson’s Force Network Fund and, of course, #HartnellDown.

Ashley Ware will be back with her one of a kind hockey and Jackets’ themed artwork and you can take in a bit of Jackets history thanks to a display from John Wooten and friends.

You can also be part of permanent history from the event – participate in live podcasting from our own Union Blue Radio team as well as the CBJ Artillery. And DKM Hockey will be back with their usual shenanigans.

Connect with fellow fans including the Union Blue Soldiers and Boones Goons who will be bringing the fun of their #SeeAndBeSeen campaign. Of course there will also be the reveal of special Cannonfest videos currently in the works from Shane, who has brilliantly taken over the video creation from Tom Larrow.

Every single element of Cannonfest comes from the community – the agenda is yours, the content is yours…and through thick and thin, it’s about the passion of Blue Jackets fans. So come on out – enjoy food, drink and fun and maybe a surprise or two.

Some of the coolest things in the CBJ fan community come out of Cannonfest, including this tribute – players may change, records evolve, but one of Tom’s finest works focuses on what Cannonfest is all about – YOU!
