The buzz of a new season is already upon us and that means one thing – Cannonfest!
If you've never had the opportunity to experience a Cannonfest, this would be the perfect year to change that.
It was only two years ago when we decided to check it out for ourselves.
In July of 2013, The CBJ Artillery had just launched on Twitter with the vision of becoming active and involved with the Blue Jackets community. As days went by, we began to gain some notoriety and a couple hundred followers – we thought we were big shots.
After seeing some commotion on Twitter about Cannonfest, we decided to give it a try and see what all the talk was about.
From the second we walked in the door, we felt like we belonged. The DKM Hockey guys, famously known for their insightful, yet comedic Blue Jackets podcast, were recording a live podcast and kindly invited us on as guests. We'll never tell them this, but we were a tad nervous. After all we were making our podcast debut, but they made us feel right at home.
Once our first podcast appearance wrapped up, we sat back and admired the camaraderie among the Blue Jackets faithful. Beyond the entertainment that was provided, putting faces to the Twitter handles and those you see on social media was certainly a highlight. After seeing the excitement on everyone's faces for the upcoming season, we knew we wanted to get involved in any way we could – and that's what we did.
Fast forward two years, we come back to Cannonfest with quite the resume –
Creators of #WeAreThe5thLine, hosts of our own podcast, contributors for WeAreThe5thLine.com, and nearly 20,000 people engaging with us on social media. We've even had our own events, such as college viewing parties, hockey movie nights – the list goes on.
All that being said, we're not trying to boast about our own accomplishments. We simply want to share that Cannonfest is more than just another date on the calendar. If you're a Blue Jackets fan, die-hard or casual, there is something for everyone and it will introduce you to the tight-knit community of 5th Liners who want to share their passion for CBJ with you.
Who knows, maybe you'll get inspired to start #WeAreThe6thLine – don' t though.
