This is my third blog entry from the World Championship
in Finland, and I'm having a great time so far. On Monday, we took our first loss of the tournament to Slovakia, 4-2
. The game was tough, and we knew their style of play beforehand: with four guys back, it was pretty much a trap. We did not come out ready to go, and we knew they weren't going to take any chances. Our next game is Thursday against Belarus, and we need to play a full game and come out of the gates with high energy - which we will. I don't know much about Belarus, except they have not won a game yet. They're going to come out flying because they can't lose anymore, or their tournament is over. We have to, and will, match their intensity.
One of the cool things about this experience has been sharing it with Jack Johnson
. Playing with Jack has been awesome; he's a great leader and we have been spending a lot of time together. He's been around the league for so long that whenever he speaks, everyone listens. He's helped me a lot and I couldn't be happier to wear the Team USA
sweater with my Blue Jackets
We had the day off today, so the team went to an indoor waterpark and spa/sauna. Everyone had a lot of fun and took the time off to enjoy and rest. The food out here is different, and it has taken a while to get used to. All I know is I've had some of the best caramel macchiatos I've ever had! (haha) Experiencing a new culture has been a lot of fun, but there won't be anything better than bringing home a gold medal.
Thanks for reading my blog and I will check back in soon!
