COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Columbus Blue Jackets right wing Cam Atkinson has been named the National Hockey League’s Second Star of the Week for the period ending March 29, the League and club announced today. Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk was named First Star, while Colorado Avalanche center Ryan O’Reilly was the Third Star selection.
Atkinson collected four goals and three assists for seven points with nine shots on goal and a +6 plus/minus rating in three games to help the Blue Jackets go 3-0-0 and extend their winning streaks to six games overall and a franchise-record eight-straight on the road. On Mar. 24, he collected two assists in a 5-3 win over Anaheim. Three nights later, he collected his second career hat trick, fired off six shots and was +3 in a 5-2 win at Chicago. He capped the week with a goal and an assist and was +2 in a 4-2 win at St. Louis on Mar. 28.
Atkinson has picked up 7-5-12 in his last 10 outings to raise his season totals to 20-17-37 in 71 games, reaching the 20-goal mark for the second consecutive season. The Riverside, Connecticut native has registered 57-52-109 and 58 penalty minutes in 212 career games with the Blue Jackets. He was the club’s eighth pick, 157th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft.
