COLUMBUS, OHIO --- Columbus Blue Jackets forward Matt Calvert underwent surgery this morning to repair an abdominal injury, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is expected to sideline Calvert for approximately six weeks.

Calvert, 23, has recorded seven hits, two takeaways and four shots on goal in three appearances thus far on the 2013-14 campaign. He has tallied 20-19-39 in 100 career NHL games, all with the Blue Jackets. Columbus selected the 5-11, 187-pound left winger in the fifth round, 127th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft.

A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Calvert spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League with his hometown Wheat Kings prior to turning pro, amassing 99-131-230 in 198 games played from 2007-10. He has also appeared in 128 career American Hockey League contests with the Springfield Falcons, registering 40-42-82 and a +6 plus/minus rating.
