The Official Site of the Columbus Blue Jackets Q&A: Boone Jenner

by Andy Brown / Columbus Blue Jackets

Last season was a breakout campaign for 23-year-old Boone Jenner.

The Dorchester, Ont. native was named an alternate captain just prior to the season, and after a difficult 2014-15 season that was beset by injury, Jenner scored 30 goals in 2015-16 and showed how impactful he can be at both ends of the rink.

We caught up with him recently as he ramps up his summer training in Columbus.
What have you been doing this summer?

Boone Jenner: “Working out, skating. After coming home from the World Championships I got to go home for a month or so and see a lot of family and friends. I just got back down here a couple weeks ago, and I’ve just been training, skating, doing some golfing and relaxing that way.” How long have you been back in Columbus and who have you been working out with?

Jenner: “I’ve been here three weeks now. Probably most consistently with Dubi. Jonesey was in for a week, Murr is in for this week. And then there’s a couple prospects that have been around.” What have you been working on in particular?

Jenner: “I’ve been working on a little bit of everything. There are definitely focuses that I want to key in on, just getting stronger and a little bit quicker and explosive. There’s also getting in good shape and making sure the cardio is where it needs to be at.” What are your plans for the rest of the summer?

Jenner: “(Over the rest of the summer), I’ll be here in Columbus and back home a little bit, too. There are a couple weeks that I’ve got to go back home for. Just more of the same – got to stick with the training and get on the ice as much as I can and enjoy it.” Will your workout plans change as we get closer to training camp starting (about two months from now)?

Jenner: “It always kind of revs up (as training camp gets closer), but it’s been going pretty good right now, so I just want to stick with it.”
