COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today the schedule for daily public skating sessions at the NHL-sized ice rink that will anchor Columbus Blue Jackets Winter Park presented by Worthington Industries at McFerson Commons (across the street from Nationwide Arena) from Friday, February 3 through Sunday, February 26.
One day before the official opening, the Blue Jackets are scheduled to hold a team practice at the outdoor rink on Thursday, February 2 at 11 a.m. The practice will be free and open to the public.
Admission to skate will be $5 and includes skate rental. Purchases are cash-only when buying at Winter Park. Visitors may also purchase skate passes at the Big Lots Box Office at Nationwide Arena where cash and credit is accepted. Access to all sessions is first come, first served based on availability and the schedule is subject to change.
New this year, a rink-side heated tent will offer a comfortable viewing area in addition to the bleacher seating. Another feature at the park will be a video board near the rink that will show the FOX Sports Ohio broadcast of select Blue Jackets games that coincide with public skating sessions.
In addition to the skating activities, the Mad River Mountain Kids' Slide will provide an added attraction for the park's youngest visitors. Kids can enjoy the two-lane tubing slide free of charge on weekdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Opening weekend festivities around Winter Park also include The 5th Line 5K Race presented by OhioHealth on Sunday, February 5. The 3.1-mile road race that starts outside Nationwide Arena and finishes across center ice is open to runners and walkers. For more information about the race, visit www.The5thLine5K.com.
