OCT. 10 – VANCOUVER 3, at BLUE JACKETS 2: Cody Hodgson and Alex Burrows scored third period goals, the latter on the power play at the 8:29 mark, to lift the defending Western Conference champions to the win at Nationwide Arena. The Jackets took 1-0 and 2-1 leads on goals by Cam Atkinson and Vinny Prospal but were held at bay by Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider (23 saves). Steve Mason stopped 22 shots in net for Columbus… OCT. 12 – COLORADO 3, at BLUE JACKETS 2 SO: Rookie Gabriel Landeskog tipped a shot by former Jacket Jan Hejda past Steve Mason at 19:19 of the third period to tie the game and Matt Duchene scored the game-winner in the shootout to lift the Avalanche past the Blue Jackets. Semyon Varlamov made 31 saves to outduel Steve Mason, who made 30 stops in regulation and overtime. Rick Nash and Radek Martinek scored for Columbus, which held a 30 to 14 edge in shots through two periods but were outshot 16 to 1 in the third… OCT. 15 – at DALLAS, 4, BLUE JACKETS 2: The Blue Jackets held 1-0 and 2-1 leads on goals by Vinny Prospal and Alexandre Giroux before the Stars tied the game at 2-2 on a second period goal by Loui Eriksson and won it on third period tallies by Sheldon Souray and Michael Ryder. Steve Mason made 29 saves for Columbus, while Kari Lehtonen made 13 for the Stars who held a 33 to 15 shot advantage in the game. Prospal’s first period goal was Columbus’ first power play tally of the season.

Last Saturday’s game at Dallas began a stretch that has Columbus playing five-of-seven games on the road… The Blue Jackets are winless in their first five games for the second time in franchise history (0-1-4 in 2001-02)… Columbus ranks 12th-T in the NHL in shots-against, allowing 29.4 per game… The Blue Jackets are tied for 11th in the NHL in face-off percentage at 51.3 pct. with C Jeff Carter (57.3 pct.) and C Antoine Vermette (57.0 pct.) both ranking among the league’s top 20 in the category.
BLUE JACKETS ONE GOAL SHY OF 2,000 IN FRANCHISE HISTORY
The next goal scored by the Blue Jackets will be the 2,000th in franchise history as the club has scored 1,999 goals in 825 games. Each of the “milestone” goals scored in club history have come at Nationwide Arena. Here is a breakdown of the club’s 1st, 500th, 1,000th and 1,500th goals.

NASH CLOSING IN ON PERSONAL MILESTONES: RW Rick Nash has tallied 2-3-5 and 14 shots in five games this season to raise his career totals to 261-232-493 and 1,986 shots in 597 games. He enters the week is three games shy of 600, nine goals shy of 300, seven points shy of 500 and 14 shots shy of 2,000 in his NHL career. If he appears in each game this week, he will play in No. 600 at Ottawa on Saturday night.
PROSPAL STARTS STRONG: LW Vinny Prospal, who joined the club as a free agent this summer after spending the past two seasons with the NY Rangers, leads the club in goals and is tied for the lead in points with 3-2-5 in five games. He has registered a point in four-of-five games, including three-straight (2-1-3), has fired off 12 shots, is averaging 18:44 TOI, has a +2 plus/minus rating and has scored the club’s lone power play goal.

The Columbus Blue Jackets official mobile app, through the NHL GameCenter platform, gives fans a new way to follow the team using their smart phones and mobile devices on the Apple and Android operating systems.
