*Jackets in December: The Blue Jackets have posted a 6-5-2 record in December… The club plays 11-of-14 games at Nationwide Arena in December and is 5-3-2 heading into New Year’s Eve… The best December in franchise history came in 2006 when the Jackets posted their first winning record in the month at 9-5-2… Columbus has reached 40 points in 38 games, which is the fastest in club history (43 games in 2002-03, 17-20-4-2).

*Standings Update: With 40 points in 38 games, Columbus has the same number of points as third place St. Louis (18-14-4) and one point behind second place Chicago (19-15-3, 41 pts.) in the Central Division standings and seven points out of fourth place (Division leaders rank 1-2-3) in the Western Conference… Columbus has gone 8-7-2 in its last 17 games after a 1-5-2 stretch from Nov. 7-21.

*All-Star Voting Update: LW Rick Nash and G Pascal Leclaire are among the players on the Western Conference ballot in the XM/NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, Presented by 2K Sports. As of voting through Dec. 27, Leclaire was eighth overall and second among goaltenders with 165,499 votes, trailing only Vancouver’s Roberto Luongo (228,583). Nash is ranked 11th among forwards with 107,056 votes. Voting opened on Nov. 13 and continues through Wednesday, January 2. For the second straight season, the balloting process is entirely digital and extends through Jan. 2. Fans can “Vote Now, Vote Often” online at to select the starting lineups for the 2008 NHL All-Star Game.

*Zherdev On Pace For Career Year: RW Nikolai Zherdev matched his career-high with 2-2-4 vs. Carolina on Dec. 29 to raise his season totals to 15-16-31 with 14 PIM and +3 in 38 games. He has tallied 10-10-20 in his last 20 games, has already surpassed his goal total from a year ago and is one point shy of matching the 10-22-32 he registered in 71 games in 2006-07. He is on pace to easily best the 27-27-54 he notched in 73 games in 2005-06.

*Hainsey On The Rebound: After being a healthy scratch for the first time in his Blue Jackets career on Dec. 18, D Ron Hainsey has collected 0-5-5 in five games and is riding a three-game point scoring streak (0-4-4). He leads all club defensemen in points with 3-17-20 in 37 games, which is tied for 20th among all NHL blueliners.

*Trio of Prospects Playing at 2008 World Junior Championships: G Steve Mason (2nd pick, 69th overall, in 2006 Entry Draft), RW Stefan Legein (2nd pick, 37th overall, in 2007) and RW Jakub Voracek (1st pick, seventh overall, in 2007) are all competing at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, which are being held in the Czech Republic from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5. Mason and Legein are playing for Canada, while Voracek is representing the Czech Republic.



HOCKEY FEST ON TAP FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 13: The Blue Jackets and their wives will be hosting the Third Annual Hockey Fest carnival and auction at Nationwide Arena on Sunday, January 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets for the event, which benefits the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, are $10 and on sale now.
