THIS WEEK IN BLUE JACKETS HISTORY
Dec. 8, 2000 – Geoff Sanderson scored the first overtime goal in Blue Jackets history when he beat Boston Bruins goaltender Peter Skudra with just nine seconds remaining in the extra session to give Columbus a 3-2 win before a soldout crowd of 18,136 at Nationwide Arena. Petteri Nummelin and Tyler Wright scored the goals in regulation for the Blue Jackets.

Dec. 1 – NASHVILLE 4, at COLUMBUS 3 (SO):
Steve Sullivan scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Predators earned the win despite 2-1-3 from Antoine Vermette and 0-2-2 from R.J. Umberger. The Jackets overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to take a 3-2 lead before Nashville's Kevin Klein tied the game at 3-3 at 11:38 of the third period … Dec. 3, 2010 – at BUFFALO 5, COLUMBUS 0: Ryan Miller made 19 saves to hand Columbus its first shutout loss of the season. Thomas Vanek and Tyler Ennis each tallied 1-2-3 for Buffalo, while Mathieu Garon made 32 saves in net for the Jackets… Dec. 4, 2010 –PITTSBURGH 7, at COLUMBUS 2: The Penguins scored three power play goals and built a 4-0 lead after one period en route to the win before 19,143 fans at Nationwide Arena. Sidney Crosby and Paul Martin each scored twice for Pittsburgh, while Samuel Pahlsson and Chris Clark lit the lamp for Columbus.

TEAM NEWS & NOTES
After not losing back-to-back games during the first 20 games of the season, Columbus enters the week having gone 0-4-1 in its last five… The Blue Jackets are 11-2-0 when scoring the game's first goal and 9-0-0 when leading after two periods… The Jackets are 3-1 (1-1 in shootouts) in games decided in overtime or shootouts this season after going 5-15 (2-10) in 2009-10… The 5-0 loss at Buffalo on Dec. 3 marked the club’s first shutout loss of the season (24th game)… Prior to December 2009 (2-9-5), the Jackets had gone 23-16-5 in the month between 2006-08… Following Monday's game vs. Dallas, Columbus plays four of its next five on the road.

NASH SET TO CLAIM TWO MORE FRANCHISE RECORDS
LW Rick Nash has registered 240-200-440 and 502 penalty minutes in 541 career games as a Blue Jacket and is on track to surpass David Vyborny's club record for most games played on Saturday when the Jackets host the New York Rangers. Nash, who already owns club marks for goals (240), points (440), power play points (152) and goals (72), shorthanded points (17), goals (12) and assists (five), shots on goal (1,761), hat tricks (five), multi-goal (37) and multi-point (110) games, is also four assists shy of surpassing Vyborny's club record of 203 assists as a Blue Jacket. Vyborny played in 543 games with the club from 2000-08, recording 113-204-317.

UMBERGER SETS FRANCHISE RECORD FOR POINTS IN CONSECUTIVE GAMES
LW R.J. Umberger set a franchise record with points in 10-straight games from Nov. 10 to Dec. 1, tallying 3-10-13 during the streak that ended at Buffalo on Dec. 3. He surpassed the mark that was shared by Rick Nash (10-3-13 from Oct. 30-Nov. 22, 2010 and 9-7-16 from Dec. 30, 2005-Jan. 8, 2006) and Andrew Cassels (4-9-13 from Nov. 1-17, 2002). The streak was also the longest of Umberger's career, surpassing his previous best of six games from Mar. 23-Apr.1, 2010 (2-5-7). Umberger leads Columbus in scoring with 8-11-19 in 25 games and tops all forwards (third on club) in plus/minus rating at +9.

PLAYER NOTES
D Rostislav Klesla, who continues to lead the NHL in plus/minus rating at +17, enters the week five games shy of becoming the third player to appear in 500 games as a Blue Jacket (David Vyborny and Rick Nash). He has registered 39-90-129 and 492 PIM in 495 games… LW Ethan Moreau had 0-2-2 vs. Pittsburgh on Dec. 4 to record his first multi-assist game since Feb. 24, 2009 vs. Tampa Bay with Edmonton. The Penguins game was his third since missing 17-straight due to injury and raised his season totals to 1-3-4 and 14 PIM in eight games.

NATIONWIDE NASCAR NIGHT IS MONDAY, DEC. 6
The Blue Jackets and Nationwide celebrate NASCAR Night when the Jackets host the Dallas Stars on Monday, Dec. 6. The evening includes a special appearance by 2010 Nationwide Series champion Brad Keselowski. JACKETS' FIRST ALL-STAR ESPEN KNUTSEN RETURNS ON SATURDAY, DEC. 18
The Blue Jackets third Alumni Night, presented by Columbus Gas, of their 10th Season is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18 when the team hosts and Dallas Stars and welcomes back Espen Knutsen. Knutsen was the club’s first All-Star in 2002 and still holds or shares club records for assists (five) and points (five) in a game. Knutsen will drop the ceremonial first puck prior to the game and sign autographs for fans after the game’s conclusion. All fans in attendance will receive a CBJ winter hat courtesy of Columbia Gas.

"JACKETS FOR JACKETS" COAT DRIVE, TOY COLLECTION FOR SALVATION ARMY UNDERWAY
The Blue Jackets are asking fans to join them in supporting The Salvation Army in Central Ohio's efforts to help local families by donating a coat or toy during collections at several upcoming home games. The Blue Jackets and WBNS 10TV are partnering again in support of the Fourth Annual "Jackets for Jackets" coat drive to help keep central Ohio families warm this winter. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used jackets of all sizes to home games through Saturday, Dec. 18. Also during the home game on Dec. 6, the Lady Jackets will be hosting an additional collection of new and unwrapped toys that will be donated to the Salvation Army's Christmas Cheer event at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. NASH, UMBERGER ON NHL ALL-STAR BALLOT
LW Rick Nash and LW R.J. Umberger are among the 100 players who appear on the 2011 NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, which takes place Nov. 15-Jan. 3 at NHL.com and Facebook.com/NHL. Fans can select up to six players by position -- three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender -- without regard to the conference in which their teams play for in the 2011 NHL All-Star Game presented by Discover, which will be held at RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday, Jan. 30. The three forwards, two defensemen and goaltender with the most votes will be named First NHL All-Stars. The remaining 36 All-Stars will be named by NHL Hockey Operations.
