GAME 14: BLUE JACKETS VS. CAPITALS
NATIONWIDE ARENA, 7 P.M.
TV: FOX SPORTS OHIO / FOX SPORTS GO
RADIO: 97.1 FM & BLUEJACKETS.COM
SETTING THE STAGE: Home ice has been kind to the Blue Jackets of late. They dropped their first two games at Nationwide Arena, but since Oct. 15, they are 5-0-0 in their own building and feel as though they're making strides toward making it a hard place to play.
There are a pair of blowouts mixed in there, but for the most part, the Blue Jackets have played well and found ways to win games. They came back from a third-period deficit to beat Dallas in overtime to begin November, and eight days later, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before hanging on to beat Anaheim in overtime. Points have come in a variety of ways, but the bottom line is that the Blue Jackets are getting the job done at home.
And the schedule doesn't get much easier. The Blue Jackets play two of the top teams in their division this week - the Capitals (twice) and Rangers - with two of those games at Nationwide Arena. The Capitals have been their usually-solid selves backstopped by Braden Holtby despite a 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes over the weekend. Washington has nine wins already this season and uses a four-line attack to wear opponents down, and not surprisingly, its Alex Ovechkin-led power play is still a weapon.
The Capitals begin a back-to-back set on Tuesday night in Columbus before traveling to Pittsburgh to close it out, and it's not yet known which goaltender will get the start against the Blue Jackets.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS: Don't expect any lineup changes for the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Their forward lines and defense pairs were unchanged from Saturday's game when they skated on Monday morning. Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to start in goal for the Blue Jackets - his 13th start in 14 games.
