HILLIARD, Ohio -- Some of the Blue Jackets staff visited the kids at Hilliard Horizon Elementary last Friday afternoon to talk about the importance of setting good goals and staying healthy.
Assistant coach Dan Hinote and radio broadcaster Bob McElligott talked to fourth graders about the benefits of working hard in school, exercising, and getting a healthy amount of sleep. Hinote related the discipline it takes to be a good student to the discipline necessary to succeed as a hockey player or athlete.
Stinger was also on hand to make the kids laugh and lead a “Let’s go Jackets!” chant to start the assembly.
The kids shared some of their goals with Hinote and McElligott, who said the best part of the afternoon was being able to teach the kids some lessons that will help them be better people.
“I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without great role models helping me along the way, and I’m trying to do the same for these kids,” Hinote said.
McElligott added that being a father has helped him to realize how important it is to teach kids how to be healthy and set goals that will help them succeed.
“Hopefully, we can help them to make their lives better, help them to realize that the little, tiny things they do starting right now will help them make a big difference in their lives,” McElligott said.
