COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Nick Moutrey, the club’s sixth pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry level contract, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Moutrey, 19, was the 105th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft held at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. He has registered career highs in goals, assists, points and plus/minus rating with 20 goals, 35 assists and 55 points, 50 penalty minutes and a +16 plus/minus rating in 54 games with the Saginaw Spirit and North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League this season. The Toronto, Ontario native has picked up 5-9-14 with 10 penalty minutes and +7 plus/minus rating in 18 games since joining the Battalion in a trade on January 4. He posted 15-26-41, 40 penalty minutes and was +9 in 36 games with Saginaw, serving as the team’s team captain.
Moutrey has recorded 53-95-148 with 222 penalty minutes and a +19 plus/minus rating in 253 career OHL games with the Spirit and Battalion. The 6-2, 208-pound forward posted career highs in penalty minutes and games played in 2013-14, finishing with 15-26-41 with 82 penalty minutes and +13 plus/minus rating in 68 games with the Spirit. He was Saginaw’s first pick, 15th overall, in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection Draft.
