COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Dillon Heatherington, the club’s fourth pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry level contract, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Heatherington, 19, was the 50th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The Calgary, Alberta native has recorded a goal and 11 assists for 12 points and 40 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League this season. He posted career highs in goals, assists and points in 2013-14, registering 6-29-35 with 63 penalty minutes and a +24 plus/minus rating.
Heatherington has 13-71-84 with 246 penalty minutes and a +39 plus/minus rating in 237 career WHL games with the Broncos. He also saw action in seven games and helped Canada win gold at this year’s IIHF World Junior Championships and recorded a goal in seven appearances to help the Canadians win the 2013 IIHF World Under-18 Championships.
