COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets rookie goaltender Steve Mason was named the NHL's Second Star for the week ending November 9, the club and league announced today. Goaltenders swept the three spots this week as Roberto Luongo (3-0-0, three shutouts) was named First Star and Washington's Brent Johnson (2-0-1, 1.63 goals-against average, .953 save percentage) was the Third Star selection.

Mason, 20, was recalled from the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch on November 4 and made his NHL debut the following night as he stopped 22-of-26 shots in a 5-4 win over Edmonton. Two nights later, he made 34 saves and stopped both shootout attempts in a 4-3 win over Montreal. He then picked up his third win in four nights on November 8 with 22 saves in a 3-1 win over Calgary.

Columbus' second pick, 69th overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft went 3-0-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in his three starts. Mason, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on September 23, missed a month before making his professional debut with the Crunch. He was 2-1-0 with a 1.63 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in three AHL games prior to being recalled by the Blue Jackets.
