Blue Jackets recall three players from Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters (AHL)

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled right wing Oliver Bjorkstrand and center Michael Chaput from Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The team has also added defenseman John Ramage to the roster on emergency recall from the Monsters.

Bjorkstrand, 20, has recorded 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points with eight penalty minutes in 46 games with the Monsters this season. Playing in his first professional season, he leads the club in power play goals (five) and is tied for third in goals. The Herning, Denmark native played in three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks, recording 144-146-290 with 81 penalty minutes and a +142 plus/minus rating in 193 career games from 2012-15. Columbus’ fifth pick, 89th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft, he was named the 2014-15 WHL Player of the Year after leading the conference in goals, points and plus/minus with 63-55-118, 35 penalty minutes and +60 in 59 games.

Chaput, 23, has registered 1-0-1 with five penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in three games with the Blue Jackets this season. He leads Lake Erie in points and ranks second in assists with 12-25-37, 31 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 55 games. The Ile Bizard, Quebec native has notched 2-5-7 and 28 penalty minutes in 53 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and added 54-81-135 with 161 penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 228 career AHL games with the Monsters and Springfield Falcons. Originally selected by Philadelphia with their first pick, 89th overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft, he was acquired from the Flyers via trade on February 28, 2011.

Ramage, 25, has tallied 6-12-18 and 51 penalty minutes in 55 games with Lake Erie this season. Signed by the Blue Jackets on July 3, 2015, he is second among Monsters defensemen in both goals and points. He has set career highs in both categories in his first season with the organization. The Mississauga, Ontario native has recorded 9-25-34 and 178 penalty minutes in 162 career AHL games with the Monsters, Adirondack Flames and Abbotsford Heat. Calgary’s third pick, 103rd overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft, he appeared in his only NHL game to date with the Flames on April 11, 2015 at Winnipeg. He collected 14-39-53 with 237 penalty minutes and was +26 in 157 career games at the University of Wisconsin (WCHA) from 2009-13.
