The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Geoff Platt from the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Saturday. Platt is expected to join the club and be available to play in tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Platt, 21, has registered six assists and 16 penalty minutes in 16 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, including 0-5-5 and 16 penalty minutes in 15 games as a rookie during the 2005-06 season. After appearing in one game with Columbus this season, he was assigned to Syracuse where he has notched a team-leading 6-4-10 and 10 penalty minutes in eight games. Last night, he scored two goals in the Crunch’s 5-3 loss at Hamilton.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Platt has collected 36-39-75 and 68 penalty minutes in 76 career AHL games. He tallied 106-86-192 and 268 penalty minutes in 248 career Ontario Hockey League games with North Bay, Saginaw and Erie during his junior career before signing as a free agent with Columbus on Nov. 25, 2005.

The Blue Jackets visit the Red Wings tonight with game time set for 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FSN Ohio begins with the IceBreaker, pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. and includes the Blue Jackets Ice Cap post-game show immediately following the game.
