Blue Jackets recall goaltender Mike McKenna from Springfield Falcons under emergency conditions

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled goaltender Mike McKenna from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons under emergency conditions, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

McKenna, 30, appeared in four games with Columbus earlier this season, going 1-1-1 with a 3.01 goals-against-average and .904 save-percentage. He is currently tied for 11th place in the AHL in wins with 20 while ranking seventh in GAA (2.30), ninth (tied) in SV% (.920) and tenth (tied) in shutouts (3).

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, McKenna has appeared in 24 career NHL games with Columbus, New Jersey and Tampa Bay, amassing a 5-10-2 record in addition to a 3.40 GAA and .891 SV%. In 275 career AHL appearances with Springfield, Peoria, Binghamton, Albany/Lowell, Norfolk, Portland, Milwaukee and Omaha, McKenna has earned 130 victories while posting a 2.80 GAA, .903 SV% and 15 shutouts.

Nashville’s fourth pick, 172nd overall, at the 2002 NHL Draft, McKenna was named a Second Team ECHL All-Star in 2006-07 after going 27-4-7 with a 2.21 GAA and .927 SV% for the Las Vegas Wranglers. Prior to turning pro, he spent four seasons at St. Lawrence University where he recorded 32 victories, a 2.85 GAA and .907 SV% in 97 career games from 2001-05.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when the Pittsburgh Penguins visit Columbus for a Metropolitan Division battle.
