COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled goaltender Dan LaCosta from the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. Lacosta will join the club in time for this afternoon's game against the Detroit Red Wings.
LaCosta, 21, was Columbus' third pick, 93rd overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft. He is playing in his first professional season and has compiled a 3-7-1 record with a 3.20 goals-against average, .879 save percentage and two shutouts in 17 games with the Crunch. He also appeared in 10 games with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL, going 3-5-1 with a 3.45 GAA and .874 SV% this season.
A native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, LaCosta spent the past four seasons playing in the Ontario Hockey League. He went 86-49-9 with a 2.84 goals-against average and 11 shutouts in 170 career OHL games with Owen Sound and Barrie. In 2005-06, he posted a 36-17-1 record, 2.55 GAA, .915 SV% and six shutouts in 59 games with Barrie.
The Blue Jackets return to action this afternoon when they host the Detroit Red Wings. Game time at Nationwide Arena is 12:30 p.m. ET with live coverage on NBC Sports. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 The Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101, beginning with the pre-game show at 12 p.m.
