Blue Jackets recall defenseman Frederic St. Denis from Springfield (AHL)

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Frédéric St. Denis from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. St. Denis (pronounced saint deh-NEE) is expected to join the club prior to Saturday’s game at Nashville.

St. Denis, 28, has collected nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points with 28 penalty minutes and a +14 plus/minus rating in 51 games with Springfield this season. He leads the club’s defensemen in goals and is second in points, while his nine goals are tied for sixth among all AHL blueliners. He was selected to the AHL All-Star Team and was +3 in the squad’s 7-2 win over Farjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League in the All-Star Game on February 12.

Prior to signing with Columbus in July 2013, St. Denis spent four seasons with the Montreal Canadiens organization, recording 1-2-3, 10 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 17 games with Montréal in 2011-12. He has appeared in 287 career AHL games, registering 28-84-112, 148 penalty minutes and a cumulative +41 plus/minus rating with the Falcons and Hamilton Bulldogs. He represented Hamilton at the 2012 AHL All-Star Game.

The 5-11, 192-pound native of Greenfield Park, Quebec spent five seasons with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Drummondville Voltigeurs from 2002-07, recording 44-111-155, 199 penalty minutes and was +21 in 285 career QMJHL games. In 2007-08, St. Denis played at the University of Quebec T-R before embarking on his professional career the following season.
