Blue Jackets recall defenseman Dalton Prout from Springfield, place Fedor Tyutin (ankle) on injured reserve

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Dalton Prout from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Columbus has also placed defenseman Fedor Tyutin on Injured Reserve. Tyutin suffered an ankle injury while playing for Russia at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia and is expected to miss two to three weeks.

Prout, 23, has recorded two assists, 33 penalty minutes and 43 blocked shots in 27 games with Columbus this season. He tallied one goal and six assists for seven points with 27 penalty minutes and a +15 rating in 28 games with the Blue Jackets during the 2012-13 campaign, leading the club in plus/minus while ranking second among rookie NHL defensemen in that category.

Columbus’ seventh pick, 154th overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft, Prout, has scored five goals and dished out 20 assists for 25 points in 117 career AHL games played with the Falcons, including 0-3-3 in 15 appearances this season. Prior to turning pro, he registered 17-49-66 and a +16 rating in 286 career Ontario Hockey League games with Sarnia, Barrie and Saginaw from 2006-11.

Tyutin, 30, has tallied 4-20-24, 30 penalty minutes and a +6 rating in 53 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He is tied third on the club in plus/minus rating, while ranking second among defensemen in goals, assists and points. In 659 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and New York Rangers, he has registered 50-181-231 and 428 penalty minutes.

A native of Ivhevsk, Russia, Tyutin collected four penalty minutes and was +1 in five outings at this year’s Olympic Games. The three-time Olympian also represented his country at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Italy and the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Blue Jackets return to game action on Thursday, February 27 when they visit the New Jersey Devils in a matchup of Metropolitan Division rivals. Game time from Prudential Center is 7 p.m. ET.
