COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets prospect T.J. Tynan was among the 29 players named to the preliminary roster for the United States National Junior Team that will compete in the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships in Edmonton and Calgary from December 26 through January 5, 2012. The final 22-player roster is expected to be announced December 22.
Tynan, 19, was the Blue Jackets’ second pick, 66th overall, at last June’s Entry Draft held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has registered six goals and 19 assists for 25 points and 10 penalty minutes in 18 games for Notre Dame (Central Collegiate Hockey Association) this season. He leads the CCHA and ranks third (tied) in the nation in points.
The Orland Park, Illinois native collected 23-31-54, 36 penalty minutes and was +21 in 44 games with the Fighting Irish in 2010-11. He led the club in points and was second in goals en route to helping the Irish advance to the Frozen Four. He was named CCHA Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-CCHA. In 2009-10, he notched 17-55-72 and 55 penalty minutes in 60 games with Des Moines (USHL) to lead the team in points and earned USHL All-Rookie honors.
The United Stats selection camp will begin on December 17 in Camrose, Alberta and include exhibition games against Russia (Dec. 20), Switzerland (Dec. 21) and Slovakia (Dec. 23). The Untied States, in Group B with Canada, Finland, Czech Republic and Denmark, will open World Junior Championship play against Denmark on Dec. 26.
The Blue Jackets return to action Tuesday when the club visits the Montreal Canadians. Game time from Bell Centre is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
