Blue Jackets Prospect Ruth Named to U.S. National Junior Team, while Goloubef, Calvert to Attend Canada's Selection Camp

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Defenseman Teddy Ruth was named to the United States National Junior Team that will compete at the 2009 World Junior Championships, while Cody Goloubef and forward Matt Calvert are among 38 players invited to attend Canada's National Junior Selection Camp from December 11-15 in Ottawa, Ontario, the Blue Jackets announced December 3. The pair will be vying for a spot on Team Canada's 22-man roster for the tournament, which will be held in Ottawa from Dec. 26, 2008 through Jan. 5, 2009.

Ruth, 19, has notched 1-0-1 and 16 penalty minutes in 13 games during his sophomore season at Notre Dame. Last year, he picked up 2-3-5 and 36 penalty minutes in 42 games and has registered 3-3-6 and 52 penalty minutes in 55 career games with the Fighting Irish. A native of Naperville, Illinois, Ruth was Washington's second pick, 46th overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft. He was acquired by Columbus from the Capitals for Sergei Fedorov on Feb. 26, 2008.

Goloubef (pronounced GAW-luh-behf) was Columbus' second pick, 37th overall, at the 2008 Entry Draft. He is currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin, where he has tallied 0-4-4 and 18 penalty minutes in 16 games for the Badgers this season. The 19-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario registered 4-6-10 and 36 penalty minutes in 40 games as a freshman in 2007-08 and has 4-10-14 and 54 penalty minutes in 56 career games.

Calvert was the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft. He is currently in his second season with the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings and has collected 9-15-24 and 25 penalty minutes in 24 games with the club this season. The Brandon, Manitoba native, who turns 19 on December 24, racked up 24-40-64 and 53 penalty minutes in 72 games last season. In 96 career WHL games, he has 33-55-88, 78 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +30 with the Wheat Kings.

The Blue Jackets return to action Thursday when they visit the San Jose Sharks. Game time from HP Pavilion at San Jose is set for 10:30 p.m. ET. The game will also broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM, Sports Radio 1460 The Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
