The Blue Jackets made franchise history earlier this summer when they signed local product Kole Sherwood to an entry-level contract.
Sherwood, a native of New Albany who grew up in the AAA Blue Jackets program, went undrafted in the 2015 NHL Draft but drew the interest of a few NHL teams who wanted him to attend their development camps. Once Sherwood got an offer from the Blue Jackets, he accepted, and did so with his brother Kiefer (a Miami University commit).
Not only did Sherwood impress the Blue Jackets management and earn a pro contract (foregoing an opportunity to play at Boston University), but he also garnered interest from major junior hockey.
At a press conference in London, Ont., on Wednesday afternoon, the London Knights made official the signings of two American players -- Sherwood being one of them.
He figures to play a big role on a good team that's been one of the premier programs in Canadian major junior hockey.
