COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Joonas Korpisalo is among 29 players named to the selection camp roster for Finland in advance of the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship tournament, the Finnish Ice Hockey Federation announced today. Finland’s 23-man roster must be set by December 25 in advance of the tournament, which will be held from December 26 – January 5 at Ufa, Russia.
Korpisalo, 18, was Columbus’ third pick, 62nd overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. The 6-3, 175-pound native of Pori, Finland has appeared in 13 games with Kiekko-Vantaa this season with a 3.11 goals-against average and .891 save percentage.
Last season, he went 28-11-0 with a 2.04 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and four shutouts in 38 games with Jokerit of the Finnish Junior League. He also represented Finland at the 2012 World Under-18 Junior Championships and went 3-3 with a 3.02 GAA, .902 SV% and one shutout in seven games, helping the club reach the bronze medal game.
