Blue Jackets prospect Dillon Heatherington invited to Canada's WJC evaluation camp

COLUMBUS, OHIO -
Columbus Blue Jackets prospect defenseman Dillon Heatherington is among the 29 players selected to participate in Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp, Hockey Canada in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced today. The camp will begin on Thursday, December 11 at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Toronto, Ontario.

Canada’s roster includes two goaltenders, 10 defensemen and 17 forwards. The 2015 IIHF World Junior Championships will be held in Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec from December 26, 2014 through January 5, 2015. Heatherington, 19, has posted a goal and 10 assists for 11 points and 24 penalty minutes in 27 games this season while serving as alternate captain for the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. In 226 career WHL games with Swift Current, the Calgary, Alberta native has registered 13-70-83 and 230 penalty minutes.

Columbus’ fourth pick, 50th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft, Heatherington recorded career highs in goals, assists and points in 2013-14, finishing with 6-29-35 and 63 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 206-pound defenseman helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2013 IIHF U-18 World Championship and earned a bronze medal with Team Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
