NASH RETURNS AND SHOWS ALL-STAR FORM: All-Star LW Rick Nash returned to the lineup at Vancouver on Jan. 18 after missing four games due to injury and tallied 1-2-3 and scored in the shootout to lift Columbus to a 6-5 win. Nash has racked up 5-12-17 in his last 11 games, including 3-10-13 in his past seven, to raise his season totals to a team-leading 18-24-42 in 41 games. He will make his fourth-consecutive appearance at the All-Star Game in Montreal on Sunday and has tallied 5-2-7 in his previous three appearances. Last season, he collected the 15th hat trick in the game's history and set an ASG record for fastest goal at the start of the game when he scored just :12 into the contest.
MALHOTRA MATCHES CAREER-BEST POINTS STREAK: C Manny Malhotra scored his sixth goal of the season at Vancouver on Jan. 18 to extend his point-scoring streak to five games. He has collected 2-4-6 during the streak, which ties the longest of his career (0-5-5 from Oct. 9-21, 2005). He has tallied 3-6-9 and is +4 his past 10 games. He has raised his season totals to 6-9-15 and +7 in 40 games and also ranks fifth in the NHL in face-off percentage (58.8 percent).
HUSELIUS HEATS UP: LW Kristian Huselius pushed his point streak to three games with a pair of assists at Vancouver on Jan. 18, which marked his third multi-point game in the past six outings. Prior to tallying 0-1-1 vs. New Jersey on Jan. 16, he had a season-high 1-2-3 vs. Colorado on Jan. 13. He has notched 4-7-11 in his last 12 games and ranks second on the club in goals (tied), assists and points with 13-18-31 in 42 games.
MISCELLANEOUS: C Jason Williams was acquired via trade from Atlanta on Jan. 14 and made his Blue Jackets debut vs. New Jersey two nights later, becoming the 14th player to make his CBJ debut this season. In his second game with the club, he scored a power play goal and added a goal in the shootout at Vancouver on Jan. 18... C Michael Peca scored the game-winning goal vs. Colorado on Jan. 13 and added an assist at Vancouver on Jan. 18 to give him 2-4-6 his past nine games… D Kris Russell collected his eighth assist of the season in his 29th game at Vancouver on Jan. 18 and has matched his total in 67 games during his rookie campaign a year ago. He has collected 2-7-9 his past 19 games… LW Raffi Torres scored his second goal of the season at Vancouver on Jan. 18 in his second game back after missing the previous 19 games due to injury… The Blue Jackets claimed G Wade Dubielewicz off waivers from the New York Islanders on Jan. 17. He is 16-13-2 with a 2.55 GAA and .920 SV% in 37 career NHL games. Last season, he went 9-9-1 with a 2.70 GAA and .919 SV% in a career-high 20 games with the Islanders. He began this season with Kazan Ak-Bars of the Russian Kontinental Hockey League.
JACKETS KEEPS RACKING UP WINS, MAKING UP GROUND IN CONFERENCE STANDINGS: Since being swept on a three-game California road trip from Dec. 4-7, the Blue Jackets have gone 11-6-1 overall and 8-3-0 in their last 11 outings. Those three losses – at San Jose, Los Angeles and Anaheim – were part of a 0-6-1 streak on the road from Nov. 28 to Dec. 20. Since then, the Blue Jackets have gone 5-2-0 in their last seven road games. Columbus enters the week with a 22-19-4 record and 48 points, which puts them in ninth place in the Western Conference. The club trails eighth place Edmonton by one point, seventh place Vancouver by two points and fifth place Anaheim and Phoenix by three points. The Jackets have two games in hand on the Canucks, Ducks and Coyotes.
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION ON THE RISE: Columbus has scored 26 goals in its past eight games (3.25 per game) after scoring 15 in its previous eight contests (1.88 per game). The club has scored three or more goals in four of the last five games. While the Blue Jackets continue to rank 30th in the NHL on the power play at 11.3 percent (22-of-195), the unit has shown steady improvement of late. The club has converted seven of its last 43 attempts (16.3 percent) in 11 games since Dec. 27.
MISCELLANEOUS: Columbus is 7-2-1 vs. Eastern Conference opponents this season and had its seven-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss vs. New Jersey on Jan. 16. The club's next game vs. an East opponent is Jan. 30 vs. Ottawa… The Blue Jackets are 5-4-0 in games decided in overtime/shootouts this season, including 3-3 in shootouts. The club is 48-45-33 all-time, including 19-19 in shootouts… The 6-5 shootout win at Vancouver on Jan. 18 raised the Blue Jackets' record to 9-2-1 vs. Northwest Division teams this season… Columbus is 5-3-0 in January and is looking to post a winning record in three consecutive months for the first time in franchise history.
