Blue Jackets place Nick Foligno on IR; recall Kerby Rychel from Lake Erie (AHL)

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed right wing Nick Foligno on Injured Reserve and added left wing Kerby Rychel to the roster on emergency recall from Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Foligno, 28, suffered an upper body injury in last night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes and will be sidelined indefinitely. He has registered six goals and 19 assists for 25 points with 30 penalty minutes in 39 games this season. The Buffalo, New York native has tallied 122-182-304 and 503 penalty minutes in 584 career games with the Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators in nine NHL seasons. Acquired from Ottawa via trade on July 1, 2012, he has posted 61-95-156 with 204 penalty minutes and a +17 plus/minus rating in 233 games. He registered career highs in goals, assists, points and plus/minus in 2014-15, recording 31-42-73, 50 penalty minutes and a +16 plus/minus rating in 79 games.

Rychel, 21, has collected 0-3-3 with 11 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 11 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He has added 5-15-20 with 45 penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 21 games with Lake Erie. Selected on Thursday to participate in his first AHL All-Star Classic, he leads the Monsters in points per game (.95) and is second in both assists and points.

The Torrance, California native has recorded 0-6-6, 13 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 16 career NHL games since making his debut last season. Columbus’ second first round pick, 19th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft, he has added 17-36-53 with 88 penalty minutes and a +9 plus/minus rating in 72 career AHL games with the Monsters and Springfield Falcons.
