COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Derek MacKenzie on Injured Reserve retroactive to November 22 due to a strained back suffered that night at Vancouver, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. He is eligible to return to action on Saturday, November 30.
MacKenzie, 31, has recorded 2-1-3 and nine penalty minutes in 22 appearances with Columbus this season. He has also dished out 66 hits and gone 89-for-164 in the faceoff circle (54.3%), giving him the second-best FO% on the team behind Brandon Dubinsky (55.9).
Originally selected by Atlanta in the fifth round, 128th overall, of the 1999 NHL Draft, MacKenzie has registered 24-32-56, 137 PIM and a +14 plus/minus rating in 258 career games with the Thrashers and Blue Jackets. He has also tallied 147-185-332, 567 PIM and a +40 rating in 550 career American Hockey League games with Chicago and Syracuse.
