Blue Jackets place defenseman James Wisniewski on injured reserve

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets today announced that defenseman James Wisniewski has been placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to Feb. 24. He is expected to miss four to six weeks due to a broken foot. Wisniewski suffered the injury when he was struck by a shot during Sunday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.

Wisniewski has recorded three goals and six assists for nine points with two penalty minutes in 15 games this season. The 29-year-old blueliner leads Columbus with three power play goals, ranks third in ice time (23:32/game) and is fifth on the club in points. He had picked up a point in eight of his last nine games prior to suffering the injury.

Originally acquired by a Columbus in a trade with Montréal on June 29, 2011, Wisniewski has tallied 36-148-184 in 392 career NHL games with the Blackhawks, Ducks, Islanders, Canadiens and Blue Jackets. The 6-0, 208-pound native of Canton, Michigan tallied 6-21-27 and 37 penalty minutes in 48 games in 2011-12 and led the Blue Jackets in ice time (24:47/game) in his first season with the club.

Columbus returns to action on Friday when take on the Blackhawks in Chicago. Game time is 8:30 p.m. ET. The Blue Jackets’ next home game is set to be staged on Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. vs. Colorado.
